Secret Stitchers Society and BadAss Quilters Society

A few months ago my friend Maddie Kertay founder of the BadAss Quilters society  ( http://www.badassquilterssociety.com/ ) put out a call for help.  She was looking for people to test patterns and designs for her brick and mortar store SPOOL (home of the BadAss Quilters Society) http://www.spoolquilt.com/.  It seemed like a fun "job", get sent a project (which you got to choose from a group of those available) test the project, send it back to be displayed at Spool, then the project comes back to you to keep and love and enjoy...... I applied for a spot.  Yup, you had to "apply" with some info about who you were and what you specialized in, like  for me its quilting, im not really good at bags, or clothes, or Heirloom sewing...... Maddie already knew about me but her helpers didnt so I let them know my strengths and my weeknesses ( I only sew flat things....lol)  I was chosen as part of the Secret Stitchers Society and after a bit of organizing the first projects were offered.

There were a couple quilts and a bag available, I just didnt quite have time at back to school time to tackle a quilt sized project so I waited.... then she posted a fabric book....... It was ADORABLE!!
Who could resist their little faces!!

I knew I could block out enough time for a smaller project like that so I went for it!!  I few day slater I got a fun sqishy package, I LOVE to get mail, just like a little kid!!
BAQS mail is always AWESOME!!

The little creatures are so cute!!
It was even cuter when I unpacked it. This is FARM FRIENDS by Sarah Frederking and as soon as I saw it knew it needed a little "EXTRA" quilting not called for in the directions so I needed to finish up a project on my longarm frame so Freida (my APQS Longarm) and I could add a bit of BadAss...... after all it is going to Spool home of the BadAss Quilters Society.

After a day or so I got the frame clear and whipped this adorable little panel onto the frame.  I gave it a little extra stitching and some highlights in my own special way ( I can never leave well enough alone I always have to go just a LITTLE bit overboard).  It was lots of fun since there was no pressure or rules to follow!!
Freida getting ready to stitch up a cute little book!!

halfway done

I love quilting with NO RULES!!
I just loved these little critters!!  It a fun little story which my boys and I enjoyed reading after I got it  all put together.  The panel has the directions for creating the book at the bottom and it was REALLY easy to do.  Only problem I had was my sweet little book was too fat for ANY of my machines to stitch the final binding thru the center.  I had to do that by hand.

In my haste to get this book done and in the mail back to Spool for the big events going on for AQS Chattanooga last week I forgot to take a picture of it when it was complete.  Thank goodness the amazing Maddie took one yesterday and posted it on the shops page.
my little book on display at SPOOL!!
Isn't this little book adorable.  Best part is she put it next to an antique machine which is even better since I pieced it together on my Singer Featherweight!!.

This Secret Stitchers Society job is pretty fun so far, I cant wait to see what the rest of this year brings.  If you LOVE this book and want to get one to make for yourself here it the link to the Spool page so you can make your own.
